Birthday Reflections of Gratitude and Love

Today is Thursday, February 2. Your bouncing baby Peasant
made his debut in this life on another Thursday, February 2;
exactly sixty-five years earlier. And I am busy celebrating!

I have much to celebrate. I nearly didn't get to this milestone
thanks to a heart attack just a couple of weeks after my
sixty-third birthday. I was told by my doctors and nurses that
I beat the odds that fateful night. I have made a big recovery
since I was stricken. So I am certainly in a celebratory mood,
and am so very grateful for every day that I rise, and for
having made it to two birthdays so far since I gave the Reaper
the slip.

I have begun to get together with friends and family, and will
continue to do, continuing to celebrate my sticking to this
life and all whom I care about, and that includes you, my
wonderful readers! Today your grateful Peasant is taking
time from the political happenings to stop and smell the roses
before they are placed on my resting place, which apparently
won't be for a while. I am grateful for my friends and family,
and certainly for every one of you, my grand readers. And I
am thankful for this blog which brings us all together each
week. I am also thankful for living in a grand and wonderful
country where I am free to express my observation and opinions
without fear of revenge, retribution, arrest, or threats of violence.
I am thankful for my friend and landlady who found me in
a much-weakened state and called for an ambulance even though
I told her that I didn't need to go to the hospital, that all I needed
was a good night's rest (which would have been a mighty long rest!).
I am thankful for the cardiovascular team at Froedtert Hospital
in Milwaukee who put me back together again, so to speak.
And I am thankful for my family and friends who took care of
my dear cat Brownie and of things at home for me when I
could not and would not be able to for a few more weeks to
to come, as well as for their get well cards, gifts, visits
in person and on the phone, and their prayers.

And I am thankful to Jesus, whose heavenly intervention was most
instrumental in my holding onto life when my grip was most tenuous.

We shall resume business next week. Meanwhile, keep warm and
remain of good cheer. 2023 is going to be a most wonderful new year
for us all! Thank you all for your readership and warm wishes.
The latter are most certainly reciprocated.
